PATH OF LEAST RESISTANCE

Looking to the unsung heroes of the plant kingdom, the renegades and survivors of

urban landscapes, who thrive in their humble settings.

Pioneering plants soon turn wasteland to wilderness, species of wildflowers, ‘weeds’,

and other plants flourish without human support, and benefit the quality of urban life.

These plants provide valuable habitat, colour and beauty to sometimes desolate

landscapes. They are givers- not takers, often undertaking unseen tasks such as

feeding pollinators, soil stabilisation, and bioremediation.

'Path of least resistance' works with these plants re-creating a naturalistic urban garden, drawing attention to the beauty of these often overlooked species- highlighting and sharing knowledge on many of the benefits they offer to wildlife and the future gardener.

ABOUT

Path of Least Resistance is a temporary garden installation due to be exhibited in the ‘Freeform' category of the first RHS Chatsworth Flower show 2017.

Its aims are as follows:

- To challenge the perceptions of beauty and function of so called 'weeds'.

- To highlight the importance of wild, natural spaces in our urban environments and the positive impacts they make to bio-diversity and human well-being.

- To honour the resilience and prowess of nature in the most inhospitable corners of our landscapes.

- To show that by using nature’s example we can create and easily maintain affordable, sustainable and resilient gardens.

FRANKIE TOMANY

Fascinated by the diversity and adaptability of plant life, Frankie loves finding new ways to incorporate the living palette into her designs.
