Urban exploration.

Like the many great plant hunters before us we set out into the wild to look for our special plant specimens. It was not dense jungles, or the dunes of deserts we trekked in search for our prize, instead we turned to the streets of Leeds. Our interest lies with the wild inhabitants of the abandoned and forgotten corners of this city.

We spent the morning peering through metal fencing, arms reaching through any gap that would allow us to take samples or photos of plants we found to be of interest. We found great diversity in these little pockets of reclaimed concrete and carpark, and made note of the plants that thrive here. Wild flowers, mosses, grasses and shrubs all find a home in these wastelands providing us a great palette of inspiration. The only disadvantage we have is seasonal, it is winter and as POLR will be a summer display, it is not possible to observe how many of these plants would perform in the warmer months. But nevertheless it's been helpful to see how these plants behave in their natural environment and we will continue to pay close attention to these flourishing urban patches.
