The plant hunt

'Weeds' are everywhere, so why not take advantage of this whilst collecting plants for our garden? The persistent resilience of this particular band of species is what landed them a bad rap in the first place, happily growing in all the places that they are not wanted. But as they say, one mans trash is another mans treasure, and so begins the hunt.
Keen eyes and spades at the ready we are constantly looking out for the familiar spring shoots of plants that will join our collection. We welcome these 'invaders' and 'aliens' looking beyond the stigma that surrounds them; instead seeing the colours, patterns and textures they will bring to our garden.
A fine example of our new collection is the Blood Dock or Rumex sanguineus; a striking herbaceous perennial with deep red veins and bright green leaves. Known as a weed to some and a salad leaf to others, perhaps even both. For us it is the amazing pop of colour it adds to the landscape, a very welcome addition indeed.
